Code of Ethics The Central Aroostook Kennel Club, Inc. dedicates itself to the protection and advancement of purebred dogs, and to the betterment of the breeds through proper breeding, handling, showing practices and ethical kennel management . . . As members of the Central Aroostook Kennel Club, Inc., we hereby set forth this Code of Ethics and promise to adhere to it consistent with good kennel practices, good business practices, and good practices in our individual breeds. It is our purpose to conduct ourselves as we would wish to be treated in a similar circumstance. We, as members are engaged in protecting and promoting the cause of the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized “pure-bred” dogs of known lineage. We shall not engage in the breeding of unregisterable purebred dogs, nor crossbred dogs, nor any dog of questionable lineage. We will not engage in wholesale distributing of dogs through retail outlets, nor will we purchase dogs for resale. We shall sell only dogs, that are sound of body, in good health, and display good temperament at the time of delivery. All dogs sold will have received the inoculations consistent with current veterinary medical guidelines. We shall not breed any dog that has a specified AKC disqualifying fault listed in the AKC Book of Breed Standards or the official standard for the breed as recognized by its national breed club. Any disqualifying faults which are vague or not clear may be taken under consideration of the general membership of the Club and voted yea or nea. We will not deliver a puppy to its buyer previous to being wormed or before it has received its immunization shots. Written instructions on care and feeding, as well as records of worming and immunization shots, will be given at the time of delivery of the puppy. We shall make no extra charge for providing AKC registration papers or application blanks, and four-generation pedigree to the buyer. We will follow all AKC rules pertaining to the registration of our dogs. We will encourage all dogs sold as pets to be spayed/neutered between the ages of six (6) months and one (1) year and sold with limited AKC registration. We shall use restraint in our breeding. We will always breed for the improvement of the individual breed and always to the AKC standards set for that breed. All breeding should be done with restraint, some not at all
